Monterey is a good option when you stop treating the whole peninsula as one town. Give the aquarium and harbor their day, save Carmel and Point Lobos for another, and let the ocean set the pace.

Official checks before you commit

Santa Cruz: Give the Boardwalk a deliberate time block instead of letting it consume the coastal day. Use the first clear morning for West Cliff or Natural Bridges and keep the MAH or Seymour Center ready for rain or fog.

Monterey: Book the aquarium and any whale cruise before locking the rest of a short weekend. Reach Point Lobos early and check current access before you go.
