How to Get Around Traverse City

Downtown, Clinch Park, and Front Street are easy on foot, while the airport, East Bay, Old Mission Peninsula, wineries, and Sleeping Bear all require driving or arranged transport.

Do you need a car?

A car is optional only for a central two-night downtown stay. Rent one or arrange a driver for peninsulas, wineries, Sleeping Bear, and most beach exploration.

Arriving

Cherry Capital Airport is about five road miles from downtown; use rental car, taxi, or rideshare and confirm current ground-transport options before departure.

Getting around locally

Walk the downtown and bayfront core, use the TART Trail for bike connections, and use a car or scheduled tour for every regional outing.

Parking

Downtown lots and street spaces make a car manageable, but summer beach and peninsula parking can fill early. Confirm hotel parking and park rules before driving to a timed activity.
